My Reiki Journey: Resetting to Me // Passion Project Announcement

My reiki journey, like many, began unexpectedly.  In 2015, I visited Sedona for the first time.  I had heard from numerous people that I would love it for the beautiful nature, magnificent hikes, and a really good Mexican restaurant! On the first day, I visited Bell Rock Canyon in the morning, listened to a native American flute player in the afternoon, and made it to Elote Mexican restaurant by evening. That night, while relaxing back at the hotel, I perused the on-site  ‘spa menu’.  There were the general Swedish massage, hot stones, and facials, but a ‘special’ energy treatment caught my eye.  I picked up the hotel phone and booked a session... because, when in Rome!

My ‘energy healing’ session was the next day and lasted only 45 minutes, but in that short time, I experienced a transformation.  Within minutes of laying on the massage table, I felt a warm, tingling sensation at different points on my body.

“Are you using hot stones?” I asked the therapist, my eyes shaded by an eye pillow.

“No, that is energy,” he said and continued his work as I dozed off.

After the session, I was walking on air - I was in a state of mental and physical bliss and I didn’t know why - it was so strong that when I returned to the hustle and bustle of New York City a few days later friends and coworkers commented on my youthful, joyous appearance!

The experience sparked my curiosity about energy work and healing - I devoured any information I could find on quantum energy and quantum physics and reiki and the possibility of all possibilities! Where did that energy I experience come from? Why does the behavior of atoms change when observed?

In my google search to learn more about Reiki,  I discovered the Glowing Heart Reiki school nearby in Brooklyn.  I registered for a Reiki Level 1  class expecting it to be an overview of what it is. Gathering in a sacred circle on a cold night in December with a handful of woman I am still close with to this day,  I was surprised to hear that we would be being ‘attuned’ to Reiki that day and that after the attunement, we would be able to share reiki with others.  It sounded interesting but was not what I had planned for.  With that said, I was open to it and had the fortune of experiencing the ‘miracle’ of attunement.

The attunement is a sacred and deeply personal and unique experience for everyone, for me it felt similar to the energy healing I had done in Sedona on a physical level - warm spots and tingling over my body but it also had an added layer of spiritual connection.  I felt the presence of my grandmother who had passed decades before and felt her with me there and her joy that  I was there.  I felt, I should say, I knew, that there is some sort of life beyond this one, and was filled with overwhelming joy that brought me to tears.

For weeks after the attunement,  I had energy flowing around my body and through my palms.  Although like many things, it can not be fully explained, I knew in my heart that it was real and that I had been called to it for a reason and purpose which was to live my life for the highest good of all beings with the intention of following the reiki principles.

Today, exactly three years after that experience I am pursuing my Reiki mastership. I have created beautiful friendships with my teacher,  Cole, at Glowing Heart Reiki and fellow students. I have shared Reiki with friends and family who, regardless of their beliefs,  are open and appreciative of the time to relax and focus on themselves and their well-being.  I have studied  Quantum-Touch energy healing and understand the power of the breath and our intention in healing.

More importantly, over the past few years, I have realized that each and everyone one of us are incredibly powerful beings who can influence not just our own healing but the world in every way from the touch of our palms in a reiki session, to our thoughts, actions, and intentions.  We all are here to support one another in achieving our highest good.   Through this work, I have started a program called THE RESET. It is a space where anything is possible.  Where ordinary people who have accomplished the extraordinary share breakthrough insights and give people tools to discover their purpose, remove what stops them, and be in action to reset all areas of life be it their body, mind, career, relationships, and spaces of work and living.

One of the things I love most about starting each morning with a practice around the  Reiki Principles is that each principle starts with the saying “Just for today…”.  At THE RESET, we share tools for individuals to be in action on fulfilling their purpose now, not someday.  The website will feature a curriculum and resources for discovering your purpose and removing whatever is in the way of pursuing it.  Additionally, it will be a one-stop-shop to find the best practitioners in every area of life to help you reset to your highest good which will cause others to achieve their highest good.

It's funny how a small, unplanned experience can open a whole world and new direction for your life. I often wonder why in my 38th year of life I was exposed to Reiki - why not before or later? Maybe it is because I was ready, and this was a calling from another time, another realm, or maybe it was just a coincidence.  Whatever it was, I am so grateful to have been given the gift of spiritual awareness and to share that with the world.
